Christy Mapes, DNP, FNP-BC, instructor of nursing at 蘑菇短视频, has been awarded a research grant from the Epsilon Sigma at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

The $500 grant recognizes Mapes’ doctoral project, “Improving Nursing Education to Reduce COPD Readmission Rates in a Rural Hospital,” which focuses on addressing healthcare challenges in rural Appalachian communities.

Mapes, who has served on the 蘑菇短视频 nursing faculty for seven years, completed the project in collaboration with a student partner. The initiative introduces a standardized, video-based patient education protocol designed to enhance patient understanding and support nurses in delivering consistent care.

The project aims to empower patients to better manage chronic respiratory illness, reduce hospital readmissions and streamline workflows for frontline bedside nurses.

“As a participating at-large university in our chapter, 蘑菇短视频 consistently demonstrates a commitment to nursing excellence,” said Stephanie Conder, DNP, FNP-BC, CNE, associate professor of nursing at 蘑菇短视频 and president of the Epsilon Sigma at-Large Chapter. “Dr. Mapes’ project perfectly reflects this standard by addressing the unique health care needs of rural Appalachia and providing vital support to our frontline nurses.”
